Spanish man traces mother’s romance scammer to Lagos
Carlos Barragan travelled to Lagos to trace the scammer who defrauded his divorced mother in an online romance, after tracking an IP address linked to “Brian,” a fake US soldier who had asked to move in with her.
In Lagos, Barragan met over 50 scammers, including a 29-year-old and a 15-year-old boy, finding them less sophisticated than expected.
His journey, chronicled in his book The Yahoo Boys, highlighted Western loneliness as a driver of online fraud, according to Leadership.
