VIDEO: I raised one man nicknamed ‘half salary’ in Osun — Tinubu mocks Aregbesola
President Bola Tinubu has criticised Atiku Abubakar’s proposal to restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027, invoking former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s “Half Salary” nickname while receiving Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Villa on Thursday.
Tinubu called Atiku’s stance “a demonstration of serious ignorance,” noting 27 states couldn’t pay salaries before subsidy removal. According to Tribune, he argued the policy freed funds for roads, housing, schools and healthcare, saying states previously depended on federal handouts. Tinubu has defended subsidy removal since taking office in May 2023.
