Ebola: Senate demands urgent funding, tighter screening at Nigerian borders
The Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to release emergency funds to strengthen disease surveillance and prevent the spread of Ebola in the country.
According to Daily Post, the lawmakers urged the government to provide funding from the service-wide vote to support public health preparedness and response efforts.
The Senate also called for mandatory Ebola screening at all entry points, including airports, seaports and land borders, to improve early detection of suspected infections.
The measures are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ability to identify potential cases and prevent further transmission of the deadly disease.
The lawmakers emphasised the importance of heightened surveillance, coordinated emergency responses and adequate resources for health authorities responsible for protecting the population.
The development comes amid growing concerns over Ebola and the need for stronger preventive measures nationwide.
Health authorities have also intensified surveillance activities as Nigeria moves to reinforce its preparedness against potential public health emergencies and protect residents from possible exposure to the virus.
