Two-storey building collapses in Lagos, kills one, injures three
One construction worker has died, while three others sustained injuries following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in Lagos State.
The incident occurred early Friday along Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop, off Ikorodu Road.
According to Vanguard, the victims were construction workers who reportedly slept at the site ahead of the following day’s activities.
The building suddenly collapsed overnight, trapping the workers beneath the rubble.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) rescued three workers alive and recovered one body.
The survivors were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the cause of the collapse remained unknown.
“Coordinated search and rescue ongoing with the agency’s excavator.”
Emergency personnel continued searching the debris to determine whether additional workers remained trapped.
Authorities have yet to establish what caused the structural failure, while rescue operations remain underway at the affected construction site.
