PSG v Lyon Ligue 1 clash postponed 24 hours amid Paris protests
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 encounter against Lyon at the Parc des Princes has been pushed back 24 hours to Monday at 20:30 GMT due to ongoing security concerns in the French capital.
According to a statement from the LFP reported by the BBC Sport, French police prohibited the match from taking place on its original Sunday evening date as authorities prepare a major security response for wide-scale demonstrations.
The disruptions follow nationwide protests over fuel prices, education, and living costs, with around 550,000 people participating in demonstrations last weekend.
The security challenge is further intensified by an NFL fixture between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints scheduled for Sunday at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, roughly 10 kilometers from the Place de la Bastille protest site.
The rescheduled Ligue 1 clash now coincides with the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, where injured PSG duo Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the award contenders.
