Osun police declare NURTW leader Nurudeen Alowonle wanted for murder

The Osun State Police Command has declared a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) wanted in connection with a murder investigation.

The development follows investigations into violent clashes involving rival transport union factions in the state.

According to PUNCH, the police action concerns a factional NURTW leader amid ongoing efforts to establish responsibility for the killings.

Earlier investigations centred on the September 13 shooting at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, where Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, was killed.

Police subsequently recovered another body, bringing the reported death toll to two.

Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered security agencies to identify those responsible and ensure their prosecution.

The police also transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The declaration does not constitute a conviction, and responsibility for the killings remains subject to investigation and judicial determination.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura identified Nurudeen Alowonle as the wanted factional chairman and said six suspects, including his personal assistant and an Amotekun operative, had been arrested.

“Alowonle is declared wanted. The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in the heinous crime,” Zungura said.
