Mac Allister slammed as ‘embarrassing’ after attempting to get Madueke sent off
Alexis Mac Allister was branded “embarrassing” by Gary Neville after appearing to exaggerate contact with Noni Madueke in an attempt to get the Arsenal winger sent off during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield.
According to The Independent, the incident occurred in the closing stages of Sunday’s Premier League encounter, which saw Arsenal move to the top of the table following Kai Havertz’s early winning goal.
Tensions escalated after Mac Allister appeared to shout at Martin Odegaard before slapping the back of the Arsenal captain’s head while he was on the ground.
Jurrien Timber confronted the Liverpool midfielder, triggering a confrontation involving players from both teams. Mac Allister subsequently went down dramatically after making head contact with Madueke, prompting Liverpool players to appeal for a red card.
However, VAR reviewed the incident and decided against recommending a dismissal, with replays showing no deliberate headbutt from the Arsenal winger.
Reacting to the incident, Neville said: “Mac Allister’s reaction is a bit over the top, I can tell you that. Get up. Embarrassing.” He also criticised the midfielder for his earlier actions towards Odegaard. Mac Allister and Timber were both booked for their involvement in the confrontation.
