NY Post releases 1997 marriage certificate showing Ilhan Omar’s sister’s father has the same last name as the man she married
Fresh controversy surrounds US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar after the New York Post reportedly obtained a 1997 marriage certificate belonging to her sister, revealing a name that has reignited longstanding allegations about Omar’s previous marriage.
The document reportedly identifies her sister’s father as “NUR SAID ELMI” — a name matching that of Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Omar’s former husband, whom critics have long alleged is actually HER BROTHER.
Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, reportedly also used the name “Nur Said Elmi.”
Adding to the controversy, a DOJ filing this week allegedly referred to the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” raising fresh questions among critics about her name and family history.
When previously asked directly whether she was related to Ahmed Elmi, Omar responded: “Not to my knowledge.”
Now, critics are pointing to the reported marriage certificate, her former husband’s name and the alleged DOJ filing as grounds for renewed scrutiny.
“It’s over,” some critics declared, insisting that Omar cannot explain away the allegations.
Others are demanding that she forfeit her congressional seat and resign.
